Kayaking

Kayaking

Visitors to Glenwood Springs will see colorful kayaks nearly everywhere they turn from May through October. That’s because with two rivers and a world-class whitewater park, Glenwood Springs has a thriving kayaking culture. As you’re driving through the round-about in West Glenwood Springs, don’t be surprised if you see dripping wet, barefoot, scuba clad individuals dash across the road clutching their kayaks. They’re off to catch the next wave at the Glenwood Springs Whitewater Park!

Similarly, thanks to a multitude of well-designed boat launches at the rest areas in Glenwood Canyon, kayakers can easily access everything from smooth water for practicing rolls and other maneuvers to Class III and IV rapids for maximum thrills. Colder and shallower than the Colorado, the Roaring Fork River offers river runners a different set of challenges.

Experienced kayakers are encouraged to stop by local outfitters to find out about river flows and where to go for the best experience. Novices of all ages can sign up for lessons.
