Whitewater Park
The Glenwood Whitewater Park is located on the Colorado River at the Midland Avenue Bridge, at Exit 114 in Glenwood Springs.
The park river improvements and the creation of the wave were completed in 2008, to the delight of the local and regional paddling and stand-up surfing communities. Depending on river flows, there is the G-wave, and also a “hole” at the feature. It is most popular with users from May through September.
After the world-class wave was completed, Glenwood Springs was proud to host the US Freestyle Kayaking Team Trials in May, 2009.
The second phase of park construction is currently underway, and includes terraced riverbank seating, pedestrian access, parking and bathroom improvements.
Parking limitations and safety considerations
Parking: There is very limited parking at the Whitewater Park. Carpooling and cycling to the feature are encouraged. Please do not park in neighboring businesses lots, or on Midland Avenue.
Safety: Use the Whitewater Park at your own risk and take necessary safety precautions with equipment and flotation devices. Boaters crossing Midland Avenue should be aware of traffic and always use the crosswalk. Children and pets should be carefully supervised.
