Winter Activities in Glenwood Springs: From Outdoor Powder Plays To Indoor Entertainment

Snow season has officially arrived in Glenwood Springs, and with it the start of all your favorite cold and cozy winter-themed pastimes.

From skiing at Sunlight Mountain Resort and skating at the community center to a day at the spa and a night at the comedy show, Glenwood Springs is welcoming Old Man Winter with a flurry of activities that, depending on preference, are perfect for invigorating outdoor recreation or creature comforts indoors.

Get Moving

Sunlight Mountain Resort is the place to go for maximum winter fun in Glenwood Springs! The resort is open on weekends now and daily beginning Dec. 13. Purchase lift tickets online or at the mountain, and be sure to check out special, value-packed deals like Slope & Soak 4-Packs and Ski Swim Stay packages. In addition to skiing and snowboarding at Colorado’s most family-friendly ski resort, visitors also have other options for enjoying a day out on the mountain.

Expert-led snowmobiling tours take off from Sunlight and guide visitors through the Colorado high country along miles of groomed trails. There are also plenty of opportunities to play in powder stashes all along the route.

Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking are all possibilities at Babbish Gulch, Sunlight’s extensive network of snow-packed groomed trails. Whichever your mode of transportation, you’ll feel exhilarated as you glide, hike and bike through snowy aspen glades on these free-to-use trails.

Even more mountain thrills can be found at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park where the Alpine Coaster and Haunted Mine Drop are open year-round. A Winter Funday Pass is the best value and includes the Glenwood Gondola, two cave tours and unlimited turns on thrill rides, 4-D movies and laser tag.

Turn up the Heat

No one does cozy winter better than Glenwood Springs. With two hot springs and a vapor cave, visitors can stay toasty even on the coldest winter days. Iron Mountain Hot Springs and Glenwood Hot Springs Resort, both offer superheated, geothermal water that soothes and relaxes. An alternative to soaking, the Yampah Vapor Caves features mineral-infused geothermal steam in a rare underground cave setting.

Visit Glenwood Springs

Hanging Lake winter hiking reservations are  available through April 30, 2024. The US Forest Service has scheduled a rebuild of the Hanging Lake Trail that is set to begin this spring and last throughout the summer months.
